Are you thinking about getting certified in French? Taking the DELF, DALF, or TCF exam is a great way to show your language skills.
If you plan to take these exams in France in 2026, here’s what you should know.
What is the DELF or DALF exam?
The DELF (Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française) and DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are official French language diplomas awarded by the French Ministry of Education.
These diplomas certify your French skills at 6 levels, from beginner (A1) to advanced (C2), following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). DELF and DALF diplomas are both permanent and valid for life.
Passing the DELF can boost your resume and help you get a job in a French-speaking company. DELF B1 is the minimum level needed to apply for French nationality. DELF B2 or DALF C1 are often required for entry into French universities.
What is the TCF exam?
The TCF (Test de Connaissance du Français) is aimed at all individuals who want to assess their level of French for academic (students, prospective students, interns, etc.), professional (employees or future employees, etc.), or personal reasons (immigration, nationality acquisition, etc.).
Unlike the DELF and DALF, which are valid for life, the TCF is only valid for 2 years.
