This article gives you the latest information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who can receive housing allowance in France?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are a student, you may get housing support from the French government to help with your rent if you meet these 4 conditions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You are an <strong>international student with a valid residence permit<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/gogofrance.com\/en\/blog\/student-visa-france-benefits\/\">student visa<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You rent <strong>decent housing<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You are <strong>not related to the owner<\/strong> of the place you are renting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your <strong>income is below certain limits<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Starting in July 2026, only students from the European Union, European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, or those with a scholarship can get housing allowance. Students from other countries without a scholarship are no longer eligible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scholarships must be awarded by the French government, a recognized international institution, or the student&#8217;s home country government. Private grants or funding from family or employers usually do not qualify as a scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>EU\/EEA countries include :<\/strong> Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"798\" height=\"436\" src=\"https:\/\/gogofrance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/GGF-blog-photo-watermarking-11.png\" alt=\"housing allowance france\" class=\"wp-image-65004\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gogofrance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/GGF-blog-photo-watermarking-11.png 798w, https:\/\/gogofrance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/GGF-blog-photo-watermarking-11-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/gogofrance.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/GGF-blog-photo-watermarking-11-768x420.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 798px) 100vw, 798px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is considered decent housing or a decent room to live in?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To count as decent, your housing must meet five basic but important criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Minimum surface area:<\/strong> typically \u2265 9 m\u00b2 floor area and \u2265 2.20 m ceiling height, or \u2265 20 m\u00b3 habitable volume<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Good energy performance:<\/strong> the housing is rated between A and F on the energy performance diagnostics (EDP).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>No risk to health<\/strong> and the safety of the tenant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>It is not infested <\/strong>by pests (like rats) or parasites (such as bedbugs or cockroaches).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>It has certain equipment, like<\/strong> a heating system that fits the size of the home, a water supply, a kitchen area, and bathroom facilities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are the income limits for eligibility?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caf.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Caisse d\u2019Allocation Familiale<\/a> (CAF), which handles allowances, does not set strict income limits.
