It combines both Pagan and Christian traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At first, Mardi Gras was a Roman pagan festival that celebrated the end of winter. Later, it became a Christian tradition marking the start of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting and prayer remembering Christ\u2019s time in the desert. The name comes from the tradition of eating rich or &#8216;fat&#8217; foods before Lent begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, Mardi Gras is famous for its parades and fancy costumes. Its special &#8220;Battle of Flowers&#8221; sees thousands of flowers thrown into the crowd, turning the city into a colorful, fragrant celebration. It\u2019s truly magical!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dunkerque: <\/strong>The Dunkerque Carnival is known for lively parades where locals dress as fishermen and sing traditional songs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Limoux:<\/strong> In southern France, Limoux holds one of the country\u2019s longest Carnivals. The celebration lasts for weeks and features masked balls and parades through the town.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Annecy:<\/strong> Annecy is known for its Venetian Carnival, where masked figures stroll through the beautiful old town, adding a bit of Italian charm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to celebrate Mardi Gras like a local?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To celebrate Mardi Gras like a local, join in by wearing a colorful costume. You might choose a classic harlequin outfit or make your own. Many shops rent costumes at good prices, so it\u2019s easy to take part. For makeup ideas, try being creative or check out YouTube tutorials for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mardi Gras is also a great time to enjoy delicious food. Outdoor stalls sell crepes, doughnuts, waffles, and other sweets.
