President Emmanuel Macron has unveiled an ambitious plan to welcome 30,000 Indian students to France by the year 2030. This initiative not only aims to strengthen the educational ties between India and France but also to enrich the cultural fabric of both nations, setting a new benchmark for global education and cooperation.

French for All, French for a Better Future

To support this ambitious influx of Indian students, France is rolling out “French for All, French for a Better Future“, a comprehensive program designed to provide new pathways for learning the French language and culture. Understanding the importance of language as a gateway to integration and success in a new country, this initiative aims to equip Indian students with the linguistic tools they need to thrive in France.

Classes Internationales

A cornerstone of France’s strategy to attract Indian students is the creation of “Classes Internationales“, a new program offering Indian students the chance to study French in France for a year before embarking on their degree programs. This immersive experience is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the French language and culture, smoothing their transition into higher education in France.

Streamlined Visa Process for Indian Students

Recognizing the challenges that can deter international students from returning to France for further study or work, the French government has announced plans to streamline the visa process for former Indian students. This initiative aims to simplify the bureaucratic hurdles that previously complicated the return process, making France a more attractive and accessible destination for Indian students.

5-Year Validity Short-Stay Visa

In a significant move to encourage Indian students to maintain and strengthen their ties with France, the French government is introducing a 5-year validity short-stay visa. This policy change reflects France’s recognition of the valuable contributions Indian students can make as alumni, both professionally and culturally.

By easing the visa process for former Indian students, France is opening up new opportunities for academic collaboration, professional development, and cultural exchange, further cementing its position as a welcoming and dynamic hub for international education.

Post-Study Visas

Post-study visas are issued to Indian students who have just obtained a Master’s degree in France and wish to stay on to look for a job. This visa entitles the holder to a long-stay visa for a period of 1 year, renewable once, for a total of 2 years.

If students find a job that meets certain criteria, they can then switch to a full work visa. For Indian post-graduates, particularly those who have completed higher degrees (master’s degree or higher), France has been favourable in terms of providing opportunities to transition from student status to employment.

India as the Primary Beneficiary of French Scholarships

Indian students are the largest beneficiaries of French scholarships. These scholarships, which facilitate access to France’s renowned higher education institutions, are a key element of France’s strategy to attract the brightest Indian minds.

By providing financial support for talented Indian students, France is investing in a future of shared knowledge, innovation, and collaboration. These scholarships not only make studying in France a reality for many but also contribute to the diverse tapestry of France’s academic community, enriching it with new perspectives and ideas.
